Lissie x Live at Union Chapel

lissie

Hot on the heels of her 2016 album My Wild West, Lissie is back with a Live at Union Chapel, recorded last year in London. In advance of her upcoming UK tour, T&D caught Lissie perform at an intimate acoustic performance at the Bowery Ballroom a few weeks back. She shared her latest video for “Don’t You Give Up On Me” from the live album. You can check it out below.

T&D: You released My Wild West in February. Have the past few months been a whirlwind?

Lissie: Yes! I’ve been pretty much on tour since the release in lots of different ways. With the band, solo, headlining, playing festivals! It’s all been fun and I’ve felt really good about the reception on all fronts.

T&D: Love the new live album. What was it like performing & recording in Union Chapel?

Lissie: Thank you! It was very relaxed, warm and special. I didn’t know that I’d definitely release the recording but I was pleased with how well the audio captured that night and wanted to share!

T&D: The selection of songs for the live album is great. It’s a nice blend of My Wild West balanced with past work. Did you have a particular process for putting the tracks together?

Lissie: My set lists try to cover the bases across my body of work. I know what the general fan favorites are and have my own as well! I listened back to the Union Chapel set and just chose the best performances from that night!

T&D: You mention in “Daughters” that you were influenced by the documentary, Pray the Devil Back to Hell. Can you speak a bit more on the importance of music & equality? Women’s rights?

Lissie: After seeing that documentary and just listening to news stories around the world in general about challenges girls & women face, I felt inspired to write about the women of the world coming together to expect and champion equality.

T&D: You’re about to start up a UK tour. What are you most looking forward to?

Lissie: I’ve made great friends around the U.K. and have an incredible fanbase! I always feel so encouraged & loved over there! I also have a great time with my tour manager Mel and look forward to meeting Teddy Thompson, who is opening and I’ll get to hear each night!

T&D: Any other big plans in the coming months that you’re particularly excited about?

Lissie: I’m off for a few weeks and am putting a studio together in my house! I’m wrapping up promoting My Wild West. Going into the New Year I’ll shift towards making a new album, while also enjoying my new Iowa farmhouse that I’ve just moved into! My sister’s also having twins, which should be fun! Really, I’m just going to find some life/ work balance in the coming months. That’s the hope!
